Hamad International Airport

Hamad International Airport is the international commercial airport for Doha, situated in the capital city of Qatar. It replaces the former Doha International Airport as Qatar’s primary gateway. HIA welcomed 38.78 million passengers and handled 232,917 aircraft movements in 2019.

  • Served 3,175,316 passengers in January, 2,844,241 in February and 3,147,683 in March — a 5.07% increase year-over-year.
  • Handled 19,458 aircraft movements in January, 17,563 in February and 19,552 in March — an 8.27% increase from Q1 2018.
  • Processed 505,581 tons of cargo in Q1 2019: 160,218 tons (Jan), 154,168 tons (Feb), and 191,194 tons (Mar).
  • Total of 538,551 tons of cargo handled in Q3 2019, making it the busiest quarter of the year.

HIA Cargo Facilities

Hamad International Airport’s cargo complex is one of the most advanced in the region, featuring specialized storage areas, climate-controlled units, and dedicated facilities for dangerous goods, livestock, and valuables.

  • Cargo capacity: 1.4 million tons per year.
  • Aircraft parking facilities: up to 11 code F freighters.
  • ULD capacity: 1,005 main deck units.
  • Cargo complex area: 292,000 m² — Cargo terminal building: 55,000 m².
  • Airside climate control centre: 2,470 m² — Cargo agent building: 5,000 m².
  • 220 temperature-controlled positions for units requiring refrigeration.
  • Specialized areas: valuables security storage, vulnerable goods area, dangerous goods holding area, and livestock area for animals & birds.
